Emily & Nik’s Intimate Wedding at Camp Hale in Vail, Colorado
This intimate wedding was one for the books! Camp Hale is an epic wedding and adventure location nestled in the mountains between Vail and Leadville, Colorado. It is a pretty isolated location that makes you feel like you have the mountains all to yourself. With zero cell service, 4×4 dirt roads up the mountain, and stunning scenery, Camp Hale is the perfect destination for those who want to get after it amongst the mountains with their most cherished people beside them!
Nova Guides took us jeeping up the mountain’s 4×4 dirt roads to our first look location at the top. When we asked the guide how the conditions were he responded, “Medium spicy, I’d say.” The road up the mountain was pretty gnarly and bumpy, medium spicy was right! We couldn’t stop laughing the whole way up, it was so much fun! Jeep tours are an epic way to adventure on your wedding day!
When we got the top, the clouds started to part for us while at the same time we could hear thunder in the distance. Mountain weather is wild!

As we made our way back down for the ceremony, we could feel a storm rolling in. Afternoon thunderstorms are very typical in the mountains of Colorado and usually pass pretty quickly. In the moments leading up to the ceremony, we were so sure we were about to get hammered with rain. The winds were picking up, the clouds were ominous, the air had that fresh smell that comes right before a storm, and there were a few raindrops starting. But then, something crazy happened… nothing happened! We were all 100% sure we were moments from a thunderstorm, but somehow, it held off for the entire ceremony. Again, mountain weather is wild!
Everyone thought we wouldn’t get a sunset with the weather being the way it was. But, being a mountain girl that lives down the road from Camp Hale in the Vail valley, I knew we were in for a treat. Clouds in the mountains tend to make for the most colorful sunsets! As I suspected (and kept my fingers crossed for!), the stormy clouds kept moving on and as the sun set below the mountainous horizon, the clouds came to life with color. We even had the moon in view!
Colorado weather can be super unpredictable. But, rain showers and thunderstorms tend to pass quickly and leave behind some of the best views and conditions for photos. It’s so important for couples to take the weather in stride, as Emily & Nik did! They embraced every moment of the day and had their best day ever amongst the Colorado mountains with their very favorite people.
