Elizabeth & Tim’s Winter Wonderland Adventure Engagement Photos in Breckenridge, Colorado

Running around at 9,500 feet in between snowstorms right in the middle of February might not sound like a super good time for some… but for others, it is one heck of a fun adventure!

When Elizabeth messaged me telling me her and Tim were coming out to Colorado for a snowboarding trip and were hoping to do engagement photos while they were here, I immediately turned to my guy and said, “This is going to be AWESOME.” Elizabeth and I go way back. From the peanut butter sandwiches, frog catching, and 5 minute fights of our childhood to the summers in Virginia, sneaking out, and all the joys that come with teenage rebellion. I still remember her telling me about a crush she had on a guy named Tim. Little did we know the three of us would be across the country romping around the mountains of Colorado for their engagement session over 10 years later. Life is wild.

On the morning of their adventure session, it was DUMPING snow. We initially were going to shoot for sunset, but as I was tracking the weather patterns hour by hour I suggested we start earlier as it looked like we were going to get a window of time where the weather wasn’t going to be too crazy. I actually opted to wear my snowboarding boots to shoot the session! As I made my way to Breckenridge from the Vail valley, the snowstorm started lightening up. I got to Elizabeth’s and Tim’s Air BnB just outside of the historic downtown area in Breckenridge and hung out catching up with them while they got ready. They had spent the morning shredding and taking advantage of all the fresh powder on the mountain!

We made our way to our first spot, the classic Sapphire Point, and started the adventure. Tim and Elizabeth were seriously SO much fun to work with. Though they came from sea level in Virginia, you never would have guessed that they weren’t used to being in high elevation! They handled the cold like absolute champs, ran around in the snow, and let their personalities and connection with eachother shine in the adventure.

After our first spot, we went down to the lake shore and… that spot was COLD you guys. The winds were harsh and absolutely frigid. I have to give Elizabeth & Tim so much credit, they freaking rocked it out there with no jackets at the shoreline while I was wearing a winter jacket, gloves, hat, and snowboarding boots! Being at the base of the shore in between mountains, that spot tends to be windier and colder than the surrounding areas. But the views are just epic so it’s always worth running down and grabbing some shots! We did that section quickly and made our way to another awesome spot that ditched the winds and was more comfortable.

We blasted the heat in our cars and warmed up with hand warmers as we made our way to our third spot, which is my favorite winter spot in the area I’ve found so far! The lake was completely frozen which gave us an awesome new perspective of the mountains that you can’t get any other time of year without a boat (unless you’re able to walk on water of course!)

As we were wrapping up, the skies still look mostly socked in, but we decided to head back to Sapphire Point just in case we happened to get a sunset. We didn’t get one this time around, but we got an extra round of adventure photos before heading into town for beers and dinner at one of my favorite places to eat in summit county, Breckenridge Brew Pub.

Elizabeth and Tim embodied everything that an adventure session is all about. They embraced every moment of the day, took the weather in stride, tackled the cold with nothing but smiles, and had so much fun!!!

WORDS FROM THE COUPLE

“Tim and I travelled from Virginia Beach to Breckenridge for vacation and I really wanted to get our engagement session done there. From the minute I connected with Alex via Instagram, everything was smooth. She is professional with her product, prompt with her responses, and authentic in her experience. On a personal level- she made everything incredibly comfortable. I would describe our session as organized, adaptive, and just plain fun! It was our first time in Colorado, Tim and I wanted magical engagement pictures, to explore Colorado, and capture those moments. It was a day I will never forget- it was freezing, the visibility was low, and it was projected to snow like 10 inches BUT we felt ZERO stress. Alex was able to adapt our original plan to suit the weather and the only word I can use to describe the results are incredible. Alex has a beautiful gift and I would gladly travel 10000 more miles to make sure I have the right person capturing my memories!

11 OUT OF 10 WOULD RECOMMEND!

A little Behind the Scenes of getting to our coldest spot!

Boots, heavy jackets, and hand warmers are awesome things to have on hand in between locations during a winter adventure session!

Totally worth the cold walk!
